“At long last, the battle has ended! And thus, Ghana, our beloved country is free forever!”
A quote that Ghanaians, Africa, and the World for that matter will never forget. A quote said by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, one of the greatest sons of Ghana and Africa at large. Dr. Nkrumah was a Ghanaian nationalist whose contributions saw the Gold Coast drive for Independence from Britain and served as the first Head of State from 1957 – 1966.
Due to his contribution, Ghana became the first sub-Saharan African country to gain its independence from colonization which led other African countries to follow in Ghana’s lead and also fight for their independence.
Today marks the remembrance of one of Africa’s greatest pan-Africanist.
The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on this day 21 September, 2019; the 110th birthday of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, wishes all Ghanaians a Happy Memorial Day.
