The Asunafo North Municipal Office of NCCE has engaged the Parents Association (PA) of the Ahafoman M/A Basic School on the topic, “Good Sanitation Practices and Environmental Governance, Key to Our Survival as Humans’’.
Mr Harris Quansah acknowledged the presence of the PA executives and thanked them for allowing him to engage them on that special occasion. He appealed to them to be cautious about their daily activities that negatively affect the environment, causing climate change and destroying our river bodies.
Mr Quansah, enumerated activities like improper waste disposal, felling of trees indiscriminately, bush burning, illegal mining known as galamsey, and illegal sand winning are the major causes of climate change and global warming.
He emphasized that galamsey activities have increased the cost of producing water by the Ghana Water Company. He encouraged all the residents in the Ahafo Region to help solve the problem by cautioning other people who consciously or unconsciously destroy or pollute the environment. Reference was made to Article 41 (g and k) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana which enunciates the duty of every citizen to help safeguard our environment as good citizens.
In concluding his speech, Mr. Quansah reminded the gathering that all qualified Ghanaians shall vote in 2024 to elect a new President and Parliamentarians. According to him, the NCCE is going to roll out many public education programmes on the theme, “Together we can build Ghana, so get involved’’ to ensure active and massive participation by Ghanaians as well as consolidate the peace we enjoy as a people.
