Ecowas Delegation visits NCCE ahead of December 7 polls

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), as a key stakeholder in the upcoming elections unabatedly continues to sit with communities and institutions, both local and international, to discuss its civic education mandate towards the 2024 General Election. In that vein, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) called on the Commission to gauge its readiness, going into the December 7 Polls and the period thereafter.

The team from NCCE was made up of the Deputy Chairmen for Operations and General Services, Mr. Samuel Akuamoah and Lawyer Victor Brobbey respectively, as well as the Commission Secretary, Mrs. Lucille Hullette Annan, together with other Line Directors and their Deputies.

Mr. Akuamoah, addressing the delegation, expressed utmost gratitude for the visit and demonstration of high concern about Ghana as the nation prepared towards the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections. He also highlighted activities the Commission has been rolling out, including courtesy calls to influential personalities in the country, Inter-Party Dialogue Committee, Parliamentary Candidates’ Dialogues, just to mention a few.

However, Deputy Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Rita Amparbin spelt out some negative deeds that are impeding the efforts towards realizing a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful elections. She cited fake news, misinformation, disinformation, and mal-information as one of the strategies ill-wishers are employing to undermine the election and democracy, to a large extent.

Meanwhile, the team from ECOWAS were highly pleased with the Commission’s endeavours to garner momentum towards the General Election while pledging their unflinching support in every means possible to augment our efforts.
