December Polls: NCCE organises capacity enhancement workshop for members of Staff

Management of the National Commission for Civic Education, with the support of the French Embassy in Ghana, has organized a workshop for some of its members of staff to enhance their civic knowledge capacity and skills sets going into the 2024 General Elections.

The two-day workshop, which took place at the Asiedua Conference Hall of Crystal Palms Hotel Annex in Tesano, was a measure adopted by the Commission to combat the menace of misinformation, disinformation, and fake news, which is rife especially in this era of digital disruption, and has become a threat to political stability globally.

Sanctioning the commencement of the workshop was Chairman of the Commission, who, in her remarks, highlighted the timeliness of how impactful the knowledge and skills acquired by the participants would be to the general populace even as our civic education mandate is embarked upon. She additionally appreciated the French Embassy for their immense support in the organization of this capacity enhancement activity.

Political Consultant at the French Embassy in Ghana, Christine Battesti, who gave a speech on behalf of the Ambassador, also demonstrated enthusiasm in aiding NCCE in the execution of its constitutional mandate. Recognizing Ghana as a beacon of democracy in the sub-region, she extended well wishes to the country as we head to the polls on December 7, 2024.

Meanwhile, facilitating various sessions of the workshop were a representative from Penplusbytes, Precious Ankomah, and the team from Dubawa-Ghana, Nathan Gadugah and Roselena Ahiable, who took turns to engage participants on a number of topics including but not limited to the following: Digital Disruptions and Responses to the Spread of Online Vices, Social Media Monitoring Tools, Identifying False Narratives and Fact-Checking, Information Disorder and Responses during Elections, and many others.

As a strategy of rooting their comprehension of the concepts elaborated, participating members of staff were presented with a simulation exercise opportunity which was aimed at translating the knowledge and skills acquired into real-life experiences. The exercise also made room for boosting the team-player abilities of staff.

In the company of the Chairman were her two deputies, Lawyer Victor Brobbey and Mr. Samuel Akuamoah, as well as the Commission Secretary, Mrs. Lucille Hewlett Annan, and some Line Directors at the Head Office of the Commission.
