The Lawra Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has sensitized artisans, dressmakers associations, hairdressers associations, faith-based organizations, and susu groups on the ongoing Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE) project sponsored by the European Union (EU).
The Lawra Municipal Director of the NCCE, Mr. Mornah Jesurun Ninge, lamented the repeated act of violent extremism in the sub-Sahara Africa and urged citizens to help in the fight against violent extremism and terrorism in Ghana. He advised all to be vigilant and report suspicious characters to security agencies.
The Lawra Municipal Immigration Commander; Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI), Alex Zinzer took the participants through community surveillance, signs of radicalization, what to do during attacks, neighbourhood watch and community patrol. He indicated that there was a need for public cooperation to help identify the perpetrators. He, therefore, urged participants to assist the security personnel in protecting our nation Ghana.
The Lawra Municipal Director of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Mr. John Bed elaborated on signs of radicalization and urged the participants to spread the knowledge received on violent extremism to others to help prevent them from falling victim and to protect our nation.
The Secretary of Assemblies of God Church, Mr Samuel Dapila took participants through Peace Building and urged the participants to form watchdog committees and collaborate with traditional leaders to address conflicts in their communities.
Present at the engagement were the Commission Secretary, Mrs. Lucille Hewlett Annan, and the Municipal Chief Executive of Lawra, Mr. Jacob Dery.
