Students at Bishop Herman Basic Schools 1 and 2 in Keta received practical lessons on law enforcement, civic responsibility, and responsible online behavior when they visited the Keta Divisional Police Headquarters on Thursday, May 29, 2026, as part of activities marking the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration.
The educational trip was organized by the Keta Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to expose the learners to the operations of the Ghana Police Service and provide them with a practical out-of-classroom learning experience.
Welcoming the students, the Station Master of the Keta Divisional Police Headquarters, Chief Inspector Boateng, took the learners through the core functions of the Ghana Police Service. He explained that the Service is responsible for preventing and investigating crime, protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and supporting disaster management efforts, among other duties.
Speaking on the Citizenship Week theme, “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online,” Chief Inspector Boateng encouraged the learners to understand and uphold their rights and responsibilities both online and offline. He urged them to respect the rights, dignity, privacy, and reputation of others while using digital platforms responsibly.
The students were also introduced to basic concepts relating to criminal and civil offences, procedures for lodging complaints and making statements, and the various divisions of the Ghana Police Service. He further advised them to remain disciplined, obey the law, and take their studies seriously.
The visit provided the learners with an opportunity to interact directly with police officers, ask questions, and gain practical insights into law enforcement, civic responsibility, personal safety, and responsible online conduct.
Expressing their appreciation, the students said the trip had broadened their understanding of the Police Service's work and strengthened their awareness of the role they must play as responsible citizens in both the physical and digital worlds.
