Assin North NCCE Joins National Clean-Up Exercise, Promotes Environmental Responsibility

The Assin North District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the Assin North District Assembly and other key government institutions, participated in the National Clean-Up Exercise on 10th July 2026 at Assin Praso and its surrounding communities. The exercise formed part of efforts to promote environmental sanitation and encourage responsible waste management.

The clean-up brought together heads and staff of various departments, including the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Department of Social Welfare, Environmental Health Unit, National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Ghana Education Service (GES), Ghana Health Service (GHS), Department of Agriculture, and the Births and Deaths Registry, all of whom actively participated in the exercise.

Following the clean-up, the District Director of the NCCE, Mr. Eric M. Ashinyoh, educated residents on the importance of environmental governance and the need to maintain clean surroundings. He cautioned the public against indiscriminate disposal of refuse into gutters, explaining that the practice contributes significantly to flooding and poses serious environmental and public health risks.

In addition, the District Director of CHRAJ, Mr. Albert Essiaw, urged residents to dispose of waste only at designated refuse disposal sites. According to him, proper waste management is essential to creating a healthy and comfortable environment for everyone.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Sylvester Amakye, together with the District Coordinating Director, later joined participants during the exercise. Addressing residents, the DCE stated that the clean-up campaign would not be a one-off activity but would be organized on a monthly basis to promote environmental cleanliness and improve public health within the district.

The exercise ended successfully, with participants reaffirming their commitment to maintaining a clean environment and encouraging community members to adopt responsible sanitation practices for the benefit of all.
