Analeptic of Patriotism: NCCE leads Family Care Basic School to Ghana’s Parliament

In a deliberate effort to rekindle patriotism and civic-mindedness among Ghana’s youth, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has led pupils of Family Care Basic School in the Effutu Municipality of the Central Region to the nation’s Legislative House.

The educational visit offered the young learners a rare opportunity to witness parliamentary proceedings firsthand. From the public gallery, the students observed Members of Parliament debate diverse issues, each representing the interests of their constituencies while contributing to national development.

For many of the pupils, the experience was transformative. They expressed admiration at seeing legislators actively engaged in shaping the country’s future, noting that the debates aligned with their expectations of Parliament’s role in advancing Ghana’s holistic growth.

Upon exiting the public gallery, the students shared reflections that revealed a shift in their understanding of democracy. What had once seemed to them like the effort of a single leader now unfolded as a collective responsibility, one in which every citizen has a part to play.

They pledged to extend the lessons beyond themselves, promising to share their newfound knowledge with peers and family members. According to them, the visit was not merely an excursion but an awakening to the responsibilities of citizenship and the importance of active participation in democratic governance.

The NCCE’s initiative forms part of its broader strategy to instil civic values and national pride in young people. By exposing students to the workings of Parliament, the Commission seeks to nurture a generation that is not only informed but also inspired to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s democratic journey.
