Amenfi Central NCCE Participates in National Clean-Up Exercise

The Amenfi Central District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has joined citizens across the country in the National Clean-Up Exercise as part of efforts to promote civic responsibility, environmental sanitation, and a cleaner Ghana.

The exercise, saw staff of the Commission, led by the District Director, Mr. Anthony Kelvin Amoo, clean streets, markets, lorry parks, and other public spaces within the district. Participants desilted drains, swept public areas, and collected refuse to help improve environmental cleanliness and reduce the risk of flooding and disease outbreaks.

Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Amoo emphasized that maintaining a clean environment is a civic responsibility that requires the active participation of every citizen.

"A clean environment is a direct reflection of our civic values. Sanitation is not the responsibility of government alone but a shared duty. Every citizen must take responsibility for the waste they generate," he stated.

As part of the exercise, the Commission also embarked on a mobile van public education campaign to sensitize residents on proper waste management practices. The campaign focused on responsible waste disposal, the dangers of indiscriminate dumping, existing sanitation regulations, and the need for citizens to take ownership of keeping their homes, schools, markets, and communities clean every day.

The Commission noted that blocked drains and poor waste disposal practices continue to contribute to flooding and the spread of sanitation-related diseases in many communities. It therefore stressed that lasting improvements in environmental sanitation depend on sustained civic education and behavioural change.

The Amenfi Central NCCE reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), waste management agencies, traditional authorities, schools, and faith-based organisations to promote regular clean-up exercises and continuous public education on environmental sanitation.

The Commission also called on all Ghanaians to make cleanliness a daily habit, emphasizing that building a clean and healthy Ghana requires the collective efforts of every citizen.
