​The National Commission for Civic Education, (NCCE) today signed and launched an eighteen-month project dubbed, “Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE)”.

The National Commission for Civic Education, (NCCE) today signed and launched an eighteen-month project dubbed, “Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE)”. The Commission is the beneficiary of a 1.7 million Euro grant from the EU for the PCVE project.

The NCCE under the project will intensify public education, awareness creation, community support, and many other interventions on violent extremism.

The PCVE Project is an EU/NCCE collaboration to help prevent and contain violent extremism and terrorism and promote social cohesion, peace, and tolerance.

The project will be implemented in five (5) regions in the Northern part of Ghana. They are Upper West, Upper East, Savannah, North East, and Northern Regions and three other border regions, namely; Oti, Bono East, and Bono.

It will be implemented in 63 districts and 8 regional capitals.

A baseline study will be undertaken to inform project implementation.

Ms. Kathleen Addy, Chairman of the National Commission for Civic Education, signed on behalf of the Commission, and Ms. Anna Lixi, Head of Security and Governance, EU Delegation to Ghana signed on behalf of the European Union.

Also present at the event were H.E. Irchad Razaaly, Head, EU Delegation to Ghana, FPI Regional Team from Senegal, Dakar, Deputy Chairman, Operations, NCCE, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah, and other stakeholder institutions.

H.E. Irchad Razaaly is the Head of the European Union Delegation to Ghana. He was present at the launch and signing of the PCVE Project.
