SECOND QUARTER ACTIVITIES FOR 2023

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has released its activities for the second quarter of the year, 2023. The Commission has the constitutional mandate to promote and sustain Ghana’s democracy and inculcate in the Ghanaian citizenry, the awareness of their rights and obligations. This mandate is fulfilled through civic education programmes formulated by the Commission to direct civic engagements at the district, regional and national levels quarterly.

The Commission’s focus for the second quarter is one that seeks to promote national cohesion, and peace and celebrate Ghana’s constitutional democracy.

The theme for 2023: “Thirty Years of Consolidating Constitutional Democracy: Building National Cohesion through Civic Education and Participation in Local Governance.”

Highlights of second quarter activities:

  • Sensitization on Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism and Promoting National Cohesion and Peaceful Coexistence (Emphasis on PCVE Implementing Regions and Districts) SDG Target 4.7, Article 41a & C.
  • Annual Constitution and Citizenship Week celebrations
  • Media Engagements on Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism.
  • Public engagements on findings of the Baseline Study on Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism in Ghana
  • Engagements on Sustainable Management of the Environment (Preventing Flooding during the Rainy Season)
  • Engagements on District Level Elections (DLEs)/ Promoting Participation of Women and other Marginalised Groups in DLEs.
  • Tax Education in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority with emphasis on e-commerce.
  • Engagements with Civic Education Clubs via excursions, quizzes, games and debates.
  • Child Protection Awareness Campaign on Cyber Security, Internet Fraud Child Labour, and Adolescent Pregnancy.
  • Sensitization on Anti-Corruption and NACAP /Social Auditing Committees.
  • Engagements on Decentralisation and Local Government

These public education interventions are carried out on a quarterly basis throughout the year, to sharpen the civic skills, civic knowledge and civic disposition of citizens as well as sensitize them on the provisions of the Constitution including pertinent national issues.
