NCCE Oyibi Educates M’Salem School Complex Learners on Climate Action

As part of activities marking World Environment Day, the Oyibi Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) engaged learners of M’Salem School Complex on environmental protection and responsible citizenship.

The engagement was held under the theme “Climate Action,” with the slogan “Inspired by Nature, For Climate, For Our Future.” It aimed to empower learners with knowledge on environmental governance and their role in promoting sustainability within their schools, homes, and communities.

During the session, the learners were reminded that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility involving individuals, communities, and government. They were encouraged to adopt positive environmental habits such as proper waste disposal, tree planting, regular cleaning of their surroundings, and avoiding practices that contribute to pollution.

The NCCE officers also emphasized the need to conserve natural resources and maintain clean surroundings to promote healthy living. They explained that poor sanitation, environmental degradation, and climate change have serious effects on human life, including increased health risks, flooding, food insecurity, and the destruction of natural habitats.

The learners were urged to take practical steps to protect the environment and serve as examples to their peers, families, and community members. They were also encouraged to speak up against harmful environmental practices and support efforts aimed at keeping their surroundings clean and safe.

The engagement ended with a call on the learners to become environmental ambassadors and responsible citizens committed to safeguarding the environment for a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future.
