The Kwaebibirem Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education has continued its 2026 Citizenship Week activities with civic education engagements in four schools within the municipality.
The beneficiary schools were El Amin Junior High School, Kade; A.M.E. Zion Junior High School, Adankrono; M/A Junior High School, Adankrono; and Roman Catholic Junior High School, Adankrono. The engagements formed part of the Commission’s efforts to nurture responsible, informed, and patriotic young citizens.
The sensitisation programme focused on promoting responsible digital citizenship among pupils under the Citizenship Week theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in a Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility,” and the sub-theme, “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.”
Facilitators for the engagements, Mr. Edward Opare and Mr. Godfred Annobel, educated the pupils on the importance of upholding constitutional values both online and offline. They explained that the digital space has become an important platform for learning, communication, creativity, and access to information, but must be used responsibly.
Pupils were urged to verify information before sharing it on social media and other digital platforms. They were also advised to protect their personal information, avoid harmful online conduct, and engage respectfully with others in the digital space.
The facilitators reminded the pupils that constitutional rights, including freedom of expression, come with responsibilities. They encouraged the learners to use their online voices to promote truth, peace, tolerance, respect, and democratic development rather than spreading false information, insults, or harmful content.
The sessions were interactive and gave pupils the opportunity to share their experiences and ask questions on internet safety, digital ethics, and responsible use of social media. Their participation showed keen interest in understanding how children can use technology safely while upholding the values of the 1992 Constitution.
As part of the Citizenship Week activities, tree seedlings were also planted in all four schools to promote environmental stewardship. The exercise encouraged pupils to contribute to a greener and more sustainable future while learning that responsible citizenship includes care for the environment.
The engagements ended with a call on the pupils to become ambassadors of responsible digital conduct and environmental protection in their schools, homes, and communities.
