NCCE HOLDS CLEAN UP EXERCISE AT JACHIE, SUBURB OF BOSOMTWE DISTRICT

The NCCE in collaboration with the Bosomtwe District Assembly held a clean-up exercise at Jachie, a suburb of the Bosomtwe District in the Ashanti Region to get rid of filth on Tuesday, 26th September, 2023.

The exercise, which forms part of the directorate activities to commemorate 30 years of Constitutional Democracy was held in collaboration with the Bosomtwe District Assembly under the theme “GOOD SANITATION START WITH YOU”, and focused on ensuring a clean, healthy, and safe environment within the district and also seek to revive and imbibe the spirit of communal labour among its citizenry.

The program which began from 6:30 am to 11:00 am was largely patronized by various stakeholders such as; Elders of Jachie Traditional Council, Assembly members and Unit Committee, Traders, Pragia operators association as well as residents of Jachie. During the exercise, the principal streets and markets/business centers were cleaned and choked gutters were distilled also placards with civic messages were displayed at vantage points to sensitize residents on Good Environmental Governance.

Mr Albert Bentil, the District Director of the NCCE speaking after the exercise, assured participants that the Directorate would continue to deploy all arsenals and also liaise with all stakeholders such as the Bosomtwe District Assembly to fulfill its Constitutional mandate “to promote and sustain democracy and inculcate in the Ghanaian citizenry the awareness of their rights and responsibilities through civic education” in the district. He therefore charged all participants to be active and, participatory citizens, law abiding, and advocators of change in ensuring a safe and healthy environment.

The District Coordinating Director, Ms. Agatha Ahia, said it was unpatriotic for residents to engage in dumping waste indiscriminately and rather admonished residents to always patronize the approved refused site while they contribute a token in aid to keep the place tidy and appealed to the resident to ensure continuity of such program in the community and its environs at least once every month or two to help eradicate filth from the district whiles preventing possible outbreak of any communicable diseases.
