NCCE Ga South Marks International Anti-Corruption Day with School Outreach in Domeabra Obom

As part of activities marking the 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD), the NCCE Ga South Municipal Office organised educational programmes for Hobor M/A Basic School and Kwaku Panfo M/A Basic School in the Domeabra Obom Constituency.

The sensitisation sessions were facilitated by Mr. George Obeng Osei, Municipal Director of NCCE Ga South, with support from Ms. Rita Dzifa Aklinu, a Civic Education Officer. The programme sought to educate students on the dangers of corruption and the role young people can play in combating the menace.

During the interaction, students were guided to understand corruption as the abuse of entrusted power for personal gain. Students were taken through some common forms of corruption including bribery, fraud, extortion, nepotism, favouritism and conflict of interest. The facilitators emphasised that corruption affects everyone, particularly the poor and vulnerable in society, and deprives communities of resources meant for development.

Relating the topic to everyday school life, students were made aware that acts such as examination malpractice, intimidation, and forcefully taking items from peers also constitute forms of corruption.

The students were encouraged to become ambassadors of change by resisting, rejecting and reporting corrupt practices. They were advised to report incidents to trusted authorities such as their teachers, headmasters, Assembly Members, Members of Parliament and the Police, as well as institutions including EOCO, CHRAJ, National Security, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).

Participants were further urged to “say something, when they see something,” speak up against wrongdoing and use social media responsibly to promote integrity and accountability. The facilitators stressed that collective action is key to reducing corruption and ensuring that public funds are used to provide essential infrastructure and services for the benefit of all citizens, rather than enriching a few individuals.

The programme forms part of the GIZ / EU Action under the theme "Strengthening the Rule of Law and the Fight against Corruption in Ghana."
