The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), has held a three-day capacity-enhancement programme in Koforidua for selected members of staff and patrons of Civic Education Clubs. Congregating forty stakeholders, the engagement aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills to integrate digital technology into civic delivery.
A representative from FES Ghana, Madam Eunice Asiedu, in her address officially announced the renewal of their longstanding partnership with the NCCE, emphasising the importance of leveraging digital tools to promote democracy and combat the menace of misinformation.
Highlighting the necessity of this shift, Deputy Chairman in charge of General Services at NCCE, Mr. Victor K. Brobbey, noted that today’s youth primarily learn and communicate through mobile phones and social media.
He maintained that while the Commission is migrating these initiatives to digital formats to remain relevant and accessible, these tools are intended to complement rather than replace traditional methods.
Participants engaged in intensive practical sessions led by resource persons from the Creative Consultancy and the NCCE Head Office, focusing on the application of cutting-edge AI tools. The training demonstrated how platforms such as ChatGPT, Suno AI, Claude AI, and Gemini can be used to generate compelling civic content, including scripts, flyers, songs, and short videos.
These digital competencies were applied to the simulation of two flagship programmes of the Commission, “Project Citizen” and the “E-Constitution Quiz,” teaching participants how to adapt traditional public policy design and constitutional games for digital platforms to better resonate with a tech-savvy youth audience.
By fostering digital civic engagement, the NCCE aims to prepare young Ghanaians to become responsible digital citizens who can contribute meaningfully to good governance and national development.
