NCCE Engages Yendi Communities on Tax Compliance, Environmental Protection and Child Rights

The Yendi Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged residents of Nakpachei, Adiboo and Malzeri communities on tax compliance, environmental sustainability and child protection.

The engagement formed part of the Commission’s Third-Quarter Civic Education activities aimed at promoting responsible citizenship and encouraging community members to contribute to national development.

The Municipal Director of NCCE, Yendi, Mr. Osman Kassim, who led the engagement, educated participants on the importance of paying taxes and fulfilling their civic responsibilities. He explained that taxes constituted an important source of government revenue for the provision of essential public services and the development of communities.

Mr. Kassim urged residents to comply with their tax obligations and encouraged them to demand accountability from duty bearers on the use of public resources.

On environmental sustainability, the Municipal Director called on residents to take responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean and protecting the environment. He cautioned against indiscriminate disposal of waste, open defecation, bush burning and other practices that contribute to environmental degradation.

He stressed that environmental protection was a shared responsibility and encouraged residents to collaborate with traditional authorities, local authorities and other stakeholders to maintain clean and healthy communities.

The engagement also focused on child protection, with participants educated on the need to protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, violence and other forms of harm.

Mr. Kassim encouraged parents, caregivers and community members to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of child abuse to the appropriate authorities. He emphasized that children have rights and that their protection required the collective efforts of parents, families, traditional leaders, schools, community members and state institutions.

Participants were also encouraged to create safe environments where children could grow, learn and develop without fear of violence or exploitation.

The Yendi Municipal Office of the NCCE reiterated its commitment to sustained civic education and community engagement as a means of strengthening responsible citizenship, promoting constitutional values and contributing to peaceful and sustainable community development.

The community members expressed appreciation to the NCCE for bringing civic education directly to their communities and pledged to apply the knowledge gained to promote tax compliance, environmental protection, and the well-being of children in their respective communities.
