NCCE Educates Students on Functions of the National Fire Service

The Ledzokuku Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Greater Accra Region has organized an educational trip to the District Fire Service Office for pupils of Manna Mission Academy. The aim of the visit was for the pupils to familiarize themselves with the operations of the Fire Service.

The Resource Persons were; Madam Augustina Naa Teiley Aryee (Assistant Divisional Officer 1); Edmund Adjei (Assistant Divisional Officer 2); Afotey Robert (Assistant Divisional Officer, Standard Operating Procedures); Ashong Abraham (Assistant Divisional Officer, Head of Operations) and Rexford Laryea (Sub Officer).

According to the resource persons, the National Fire Service was established by an Act of Parliament, Act 537 of 1997 with the objective of preventing and managing undesirable fire outbreaks. For the purpose of achieving its objectives, the Service performs the following functions; organizes public fire education programmes; provides technical advice for building planning in respect of machinery and structural layouts to facilitate escape from fire, rescue operations, and fire management; inspects and offers technical advice on fire extinguishers; coordinate and advise on the training of personnel in firefighting departments of institutions in the country; & also undertake any other function incidental to the objective of the Service.

Also, in attendance were the following officers from the Ledzokuku Municipal Office of the Commission: Nicholas Atiogbe (Municipal Director); Regina Adeti (Principal Civic Education Officer); Joshua Akinwale (Civic Education Officer); Ebilson Nii Tetteh (Assistant Civic Education Officer) and Fatima Shaibu (Assistant Civic Education Officer).
