As part of its annual flagship program, the National Commission for Civic Education has sensitized the Alavanyo community in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District on Child Protection. The Acting District Director of the NCCE, Donkorkrom Directorate, Mr. James Agrona, who also serves as a member of the Kwahu Afram Plains North District Child Protection Team, leads a child protection-focused group discussion at Alavanyo.
During the engagement, the participants were made to demonstrate Child Protection issues through what is called the ‘Child Protection Tool Kits’. The kits enable community members to reveal prevailing child protection issues in the community. Some of the issues raised among others are Child labor, child neglect, defilement, child trafficking, child online safety, and child abuse.
At the end of the discussion, the community members agreed on the way forward. It was agreed that critical areas of concern be addressed. Issues that needed urgent attention were immediately referred to the Department of Social Development and CHRAJ for appropriate redress.
