The Assin Foso Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) joined the Assin Foso Municipal Assembly in observing the National Sanitation Day exercise.
Representing the NCCE were Ms. Adabiyatu Balali Iddrisu, Ms. Yvonne Fosu, and Mr. Amoah Bismak. Other dignitaries and participants included the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Baba Gariba; the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Ibrahim Saaka; his assistant, Prince; the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Agari; and staff of the Municipal Assembly, among others.
The cleanup exercise commenced at 6:00 a.m. and ended at 10:30 a.m.
At the end of the exercise, the Municipal Coordinating Director announced that the day was not a public holiday. He therefore directed all officers to return home to freshen up and report back to their respective offices to continue with official duties. He also encouraged everyone to participate in the following day's cleanup exercise to help keep Assin Foso clean.
The Municipal Coordinating Director further noted that Assin Foso is one of the districts with the highest rainfall in the country. He cautioned residents not to assume that flooding cannot occur in the municipality, stressing that floods can happen at any time if proper sanitation practices are neglected.
The MCE also urged the Environmental Health Unit to collaborate with other departments by seeking additional personnel to support inspection exercises. He indicated that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) office in Assin Foso now has adequate staff who can assist, alongside the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other relevant agencies.
He expressed his appreciation to all participants for their commitment and active involvement in the sanitation exercise.
Later in the day, at about 4:30 p.m., the Municipal Environmental Health Officer supervised the spraying of offices within the Municipal Assembly premises to promote a healthy working environment. The NCCE Assin Foso Office was among the offices that benefited from the fumigation exercise.
