The Tarkwa Nsuaem office of the NCCE has intensified public sensitization on national cohesion, peaceful co-existence, and education on the duties of a citizen. The Civic Education team engaged 21 faith-based organisations and 12 identifiable groups in the municipality. The groups include mechanics, hairdressers, tailors, and dressmakers’ associations.
The Municipal Director, Peter Dayna Sunkare spoke to groups on the importance of national cohesion, unity, peace, and harmony describing it as necessary for national development. He urged them to do away with the culture of greed and selfishness and divisive ideologies. He charged them to live together in peace and harmony with others.
The civic education team also addressed the groups on the threat of violent extremism and urged community members to be extra vigilant by reporting suspicious characters to the appropriate security agencies for prompt action. The youth were cautioned against being deceived and recruited into terrorist or extremist groups.
Education on the upcoming 2023 District Level Elections (DLEs), also came to the fore. The educators urged all to participate in the elections. Women and Persons Living with Disabilities were also challenged to show interest and contest when the Electoral Commission (EC) opens nominations.
Participants thanked the NCCE for the engagement and urged them to extend the programme to other communities in the municipality.
