LET’S RESTORE GHANAIAN VALUES - NCCE

The Kwaebibirem District office of the National Commission for Civic Education has visited seven (7) schools at Akyem Otumi in the Eastern Region. They are Otumi Presby Basic School, Kwaebibirem Model Basic School, Deok Preparatory School, Abodom Presby Basic School, Abodom R/C Basic School, Abodom M/A Basic School and Ohenebema Memorial School. Staff and pupils were sensitized on Ghanaian values. Some of the Ghanaian values are patriotism, honesty, integrity, humility, responsibility, and respect among others.

Civic Education Officer, Joseph Addo Asiedu, charged students to uphold and identify with these Ghanaian values to promote nation-building. He called on the students to show respect to the elderly, and authority and cautioned them against vices that undermine national development.

A staff of Otumi Presby Basic School raised concerns about the current trend where students in the Senior High Schools go on social media to insult leaders and engage in other vices. Mr. Responding to the concern, Edward Opare, Assistant Civic Education Officer remarked that the responsibility of raising the next generation of future leaders is a shared one and as such, all stakeholders, especially parents and guardians should be deliberate in nurturing their wards to be responsible citizens.

The Civic Educators cautioned students against murmuring and disturbing during teaching lessons. They also encouraged them to promote Ghanaian culture at all levels. The students were entreated to keep the peace not only in society but among their peers, family members and in school. She also asked students to assist the Ghana Police Service and Traditional Authorities to maintain peace and order for personal development and nation-building. The officers expressed gratitude to the school authorities and hoped to hold more educational sessions with the students and staff.
