Fight Radicalisation - NCCE Garu District Warns the Public

The NCCE Director for Garu District, Mr. Akolgo Samuel has visited Quality Radio to sensitise the public on radicalization as a tool for Violent Extremism.

According to him, radicalization refers to the process by which individuals adopt extreme ideologies, beliefs, and tactics that can lead to violent or destructive behaviour and is often associated with various forms of extremism including; political, religious, or social causes.

Speaking on Quality Radio, he explained to the public some of the factors that can lead to radicalization, he talked about political and historical context, ideological indoctrination, online influence, peer influence, social division, undermining democratic values, stigmatization, discrimination, etc. He also made the public understand that radicalization can lead to increased risk of violence, social isolation, threats to national security, and undermined religious and cultural tolerance.

He therefore urges all stakeholders and the public to help fight radicalization by addressing social and economic inequalities; promoting tolerance; strengthening community resilience; providing education and alternative narrative; effective communication; early detective and intervention programmes; reporting suspected cases of radicalization and utilising online safety measures.

He concluded by saying that, by combining these strategies, society can work towards preventing radicalization and building a more peaceful and inclusive environment.
