Krachie East Office of the National Commission for Civic Education, in a bid to equip residents with requisite knowledge on curtailing and controlling incidents of fire outbreak, has collaborated with the Municipal’s Fire Station to provide expert’s insights on the subject matter.
Causes of fire outbreak ranges from a number of factors, including electrical faults, open flames such as lit candles, fire from cooking stoves, and many others.
Commander of the Municipal Fire Station, ADO I Stephen Agotor, in his address explained that a lot of the fire incidents recorded are preventable, thus urging the participants to make it a point to put out completely fire from the stove anytime they lit it for cooking purposes. “When you are done with your coal pot, wait till you are sure there is no iota of fire before you decide to leave the site”, he added.
The Commander, underscoring the essence of conducting fire drills in the various homes, highlighted that all exits must be devoid of any sort of obstruction, making them accessible, while having in place an evacuation plan. He additionally mentioned, “The first thing to do whenever there is a suspicion of a fire outbreak is to turn off the main switch.”.
Meanwhile, he advised the residents to keep numbers of the emergency services, including the fire service, on speed dial so that they can easily reach out to them when the need arises, charging them to be each other’s keeper.
