Akropong-Akuapem Methodist Basic School benefits from a cyber bullying engagement

The Akuapem North Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has kickstarted basic school engagements on Cyber Bullying, making their first stop at the Methodist Basic School in Akropong-Akuapem. The purpose of the engagement was to shed light on the menace and how the students can shield themselves against online predators.

Touching on the growing trend of blatant display of irresponsibility and nonchalance on the digital space, Mr. Eric Ocloo, a Chief Field Officer of the Commission indicated advised the young ones to be weary of the kinds content they share on those platforms, cautioning them to assess and ascertain that contents shared are those they can still be proud of in the future.

Mr. Ocloo additionally urged them not to accept association from people they do not know physically, stating that it is a risky move since the integrity and motive of such individuals cannot be easily determined.

“Do not agree to a meeting with strangers, and even if it is necessary, make sure you go with an elderly person, preferably a family member”, Mr. Ocloo suggested, “adding that wicked people in the physical space are the same ones on the virtual platforms”.

NCCE is noted for the establishment of Civic Education Clubs (CEC’s) in basic, senior high, and tertiary institutions. The team thus leveraged the opportunity to establish one in the school.

An Assistant Civic Engagement Officer, Albert E. Attipoe, underscored the objectives of the Club, stating that it is an avenue for more frequent and deeper civic engagement. She called on them to stay active, committed, and dedicated to help shape them into people of good moral standing in society.

As part of the team were Nana Oduraa III, a Civic Education Officer, and Samuel Opare-Saforo, a National Service Person.
