Ahafo Regional NCCE Engages Ghana Prisons Service to Wrap Up Constitution Week Celebration

The Ahafo Regional Office, in collaboration with the Asutifi North District Office of the Commission, has successfully concluded the 2026 Constitution Week Celebration with an education forum for officers of the Ghana Prisons Service at the Kenyasi Prison Camp.

The engagement, held under the theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in a Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility,” provided prison officers with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the 1992 Constitution and reflect on their critical role in safeguarding constitutional governance in an increasingly digital society.

Serving as resource person, the Ahafo Regional Director, Eric Adu, Esq., intimated that the rapid growth of digital technology presents both opportunities and constitutional challenges for public institutions.

He noted that the Ghana Prisons Service increasingly relies on electronic records, biometric databases, and virtual communication systems, making it imperative for officers to ensure that the use of technology aligns with constitutional provisions and respects the rights and dignity of all individuals.

He further emphasised that constitutional governance is demonstrated through the daily conduct of public officers. “Every professionally maintained record, every fair decision, every act of humane treatment contributes to public confidence in democratic governance,” he stated, urging officers to uphold integrity, professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights in their work.

Mr. Adu also pointed out that protecting citizens’ personal information is not merely an administrative duty but a constitutional responsibility. He thus called on officers to remain vigilant in safeguarding digital records and confidential information, stressing that public trust in state institutions depends largely on their ability to protect such data responsibly.

On behalf of the Ghana Prisons Service, the Commanding Officer of the Kenyasi Prison Camp expressed appreciation to the NCCE for selecting the facility as part of the 2026 Constitution Week activities. He commended the Commission for its continued civic education efforts towards strengthening constitutional democracy, responsible citizenship, and good governance in Ghana.
