The European Union (EU) has handed over a fully equipped Toyota Land Cruiser Public Education Cinema Van to the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to enhance the Commission's public and civic education activities nationwide. The Cinema Van with built-in audio-visual equipment is valued at £101,504.73. The donation is part of the EU’s partnership with the NCCE under the Accountability, Rule of Law, and Anti- Corruption Programme(ARAP).
The EU Ambassador and Head of EU Delegation, Ms. Diana Acconcia, commended the NCCE for undertaking extensive public education and social mobilisation, especially on the COVID-19 pandemic. Commenting on NCCE's role under the ARAP project, the EU Ambassador said the NCCE was identified as a key implementing partner of ARAP explaining that the donation of the Cinema Van would go a long way to enhance the Commission's audiovisual communication on civic issues and public sensitisation on anti-corruption, rule of law and environmental governance.
Ms. Ana Sanchez, the ARAP Team Leader in a video presentation of how the Cinema van functions, revealed that the ARAP project since 2016, has among others supported the NCCE in the areas of Research, ARAP National Dialogues (8 Series), Media Advocacy Workshops as well as Social Auditing programmes.
The Chairman of NCCE, Ms. Josephine Nkrumah expressed appreciation and thanked the EU for the donation. She said the handing over of the Cinema Van will definitely enhance the work of the Commission to reach the good people of Ghana in every nook and cranny of the country. She also recounted EU’s support to the Commission in previous national elections and disclosed that the EU supported 90 percent of the Commission’s activities in the 2016 general elections.
The Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations at the NCCE, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah, extolled the efforts of stakeholders who worked behind the scenes to ensure that the Cinema Van was delivered. He noted that the van would shore up the Commission’s effort to sensitise the public.
