The Kadjebi District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Daniel Agbesi Latsu has appealed to Ghanaians to regularly and thoroughly wash their hands with soap under running water and use alcohol-based sanitizer as a measure in containing the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) emphasizing that “Akpeteshie” is not hand sanitizer in containment of the disease.
He stated that the common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, dry cough, sneezing, breathing difficulties, sore throat and runny nose. “Severe forms of the illness can cause pneumonia, kidney failure and death”, he said. He informed participants that the incubation period for the disease ranges between 2-14 days.
Mr. Latsu, who disclosed this at a public education programme on COVID-19 organised for 25 Head teachers and Head masters at Kadjebi District Assembly Hall in the Oti Region, advised the citizenry to maintain social distancing, avoid hugging, hand shake, avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth. He explained that as hands touched infected surfaces, they could pick up the virus and transfer them onto their bodies thus making them contract the disease.
A Civic Education Officer of the NCCE, Ms. Delight Ama Serwa Akey called on the populace to help contain the spread of the infection by observing the precautionary measures prescribed by the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health. “We are all at risk, so let us be proactive and protect ourselves, our families and other members of the community against the pandemic”, Ms. Akey added.
Similar programmes were held at Kadjebi, Poase-Cement, Mempeasem, Dzindziso, among others.
