The Agotime – Ziope District of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) educated eight (8) Roman Catholic Schools on the theme; “Combating Corruption in Ghana: the Role of the Catholic Education Unit in the Agotime – Ziope District”.
Speaking at the event, Senior Civic Education Officer (SCEO), Mr. Carl Wotordzor admonished the pupils, teachers and the various leaders of the Church to bear in mind that corruption can only be fought and defeated through massive education to conscientize the future leaders (pupils) on the damages corruption cause the economy.
Mr. Wotordzor said issues of corruption can never be eradicated if churches refuse to actively participate in tough budgetary controls and monitoring of local assemblies. “The leaders must also promote the introduction of moral subjects in the curriculum to address it”, he added. He further challenged the Catholic leaders to support the NCCE to embark on similar education campaigns to help curb the canker.
Chief Field Officer (CFO), Mr. Osborn Akpordor on his part called on the Catholic Church to support the Accountability, Rule of law and Anti – Corruption Programme (ARAP) campaign and to encourage their congregants in the fight against corruption. Mr. Akpordor also talked about the need to strengthen our laws on corruption and punish those involved. He reminded participants of the Whistle Blowers Act 2006, Act 720 which provides protection to informants.

A similar event was held at the Batume Junction Roman Catholic Basic School. In attendance were Mr. Obed Adzanku, the Head of the Agorhorkpor R.C Basic School; Mr. Adjatia Gabriel, Assistant Head of the Roman Catholic J.H.S Kpetoe; Reverend Father Anthony Mawuli Ahiabor of the Agotime – Ziope Outreach Church and Micheal Dzikpe, Headmaster of the Batume Junction R.C Basic School.
