The Chairman of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Ms. Josephine Nkrumah has encouraged the in-school youth to put Ghana first in all their dealings. Ms. Nkrumah made this statement at the 7th edition of the Youth Link sponsored inter-school singing competition dubbed ‘Voice Battle’.
Ms. Nkrumah congratulated the organizers for their initiative of bringing basic schools together to sing Ghanaian patriotic songs. She said the programme, which represents a learning curve for students and teachers would institute a culture of patriotism among pupils of basic schools.
The NCCE Chairman urged the students to learn the lyrics of all the patriotic songs and abide by the words in them. “Music is powerful, it describes our emotions and identifies us as a people with unique values,” she stated. She reiterated the importance of music to the development of the nation.
The Social Protection Specialist of the World Bank and Chairman of the Competition, Ms. Christabel Dadzie, appealed to the students to make a difference in their locality. This, she said would happen only when they are patriotic, loyal, punctual, and have the spirit of honesty.
The Event Coordinator of Youth Link Ghana, Mr. Kakra Opoku-Agyakwa, said the objective of the competition was to give school children the opportunity to unearth their talents and nurture them. Mr. Emmanuel Dosoo, the son of Jonathan Dosoo, a legendary musician and writer, noted that good music has timeless qualities and called on the youth to portray love, unity, and peace using music as a conduit.
