The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Municipal Director for Savelugu, Mr. Salifu Ibn-Manan, has stated that corruption is a canker which comes in various forms such as embezzlement, extortion, and bribery, among others according to a national survey conducted by the NCCE titled ‘Public Opinion on Corruption, Accountability, and Environmental Governance’.
He said this at a community durbar organized by the NCCE on Public Accountability and Environmental Governance as part of the activities under the Accountability Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (ARAP) in the Savelugu Municipality of the Northern Region of Ghana.
The aim of the activity is to empower the citizenry to actively participate in the governance process to attain greater public accountability, reduce corruption, deepen the Rule of Law, and attain better environmental governance in Ghana.
During the Durbar, the CHRAJ Municipal Director, Madam Mariam Abdullai, took the participants through the steps involved in whistleblowing and the appropriate places to report cases of corruption. The institutions include the Ghana Police Service, CHRAJ, EOCO, and others.
A similar activity was undertaken in Gbimsi in the West Mamprusi District.
