The Kadjebi District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has in partnership with the
Kadjebi Local Council of Churches organised an anti-corruption education for Christian folks at Kadjebi in the Oti Region. Speaking at the programme, an Assistant Civic Education Officer (ACEO) of the NCCE, Mr Gabriel Kwame Dzanka called for a concerted effort in the fight against corruption because fighting corruption is a complex undertaking.
Mr. Dzanka said a number of studies continued to indicate that corruption persists in Ghana, with serious consequences for the national development.
He said the fight against corruption is anchored on a number of legal frameworks and named them as The Asset Declaration Act (Act 550), The Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), among others.
Mr. Dzanka said the act if not checked would push the country backward and thus, urged the citizenry to report all corruption allegations to CHRAJ, EOCO, Legal Aid, SPO, and the Police for investigation and prosecution.
The former Member of Parliament for Akan Constituency, Mr. Joseph Kwadwo Ofori urged Ghanaians to help fight corruption since it was a multifaceted problem.
Mr. Ofori said it undermined democracy, and the rule of law, led to violations of human rights, distorts markets and eroded the quality of life.
He said it was a key element in economic underperformance and a major hindrance to poverty alleviation and development. The Secretary to the Kadjebi Local Council of Churches, Rev. Paul Winner Kporvi, thanked the Commission for the interesting educational talk and called for more of such interactions
