The Volta Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Kenneth Kponor, has appealed to the Commission to help sensitise Ghanaians on the core principles, values, and objectives of the 1992 Constitution. Mr. Kponor said “Civic Education is a calling which must be carried out on a daily basis’’.
He implored the state to reach out to the citizenry at market centers, churches, and workplaces or village arena to educate them on their civic rights and responsibilities.
Addressing NCCE District Directors in the Oti and Volta Regions, Mr. Kponor said “as custodians of the Constitution, you ought to use the media to increase visibility for the Commission’s activities nationwide’’.
The Deputy Volta Regional Director of the NCCE, Mr. Patrick Asiedu, entreated the District Directors in the region to be transparent in their dealings with the public. District directors should also refrain from acts that will dent the image of the Commission, he added. Mr. Asiedu urged them to develop mutual and beneficial relationships with community members and opinion leaders to build trust and confidence in the NCCE.
The Ketu-North District Director of the NCCE, Mr. Prosper Kofi Afealete called for the interpretation of section 7 (4) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) which disallows a state of a District Assembly from contesting a position in the same District Assembly.
The meeting also discussed issues on Accountability, Rule of Law and Anti-corruption Programme, (ARAP).
